El Escorial is easily acccesible from Madrid by car, just take A-6 and exit at km 18.5 in the direction of Las Rozas-Galapagar-El Escorial. El Escorial is well connected to Madrid by public bus and conmuter train services. (Road A-6). The ride by bus number 661 from Metro Station Moncloa to El Escorial takes between 45 and 60 minutes. The ticket fare is about 3 euros. Beware that on Sundays this bus runs approximately only every hour (it runs more frequently on weekdays). Alternatively, you can take a conmuter train to El Escorial at Atocha, Chamartin, Nuevos Ministerios or Principe Pio stations (Renfe Phone number = 902 24 02 02; Renfe web page).
